Will you join the DoFollowers?

You will see on the sidebar of this Blog a DoFollow Manifesto. So what is a DoFollow Manifesto and why have I drawn one up?

Some years ago WordPress Blogs were facing a problem with people spamming Blogs with rubbish simply to get a backlink. A backlink is a link from another site to your Blog. The term ‘backlink’ is used because it is one way.

The number of backlinks that go to your site add to Google and other search engines score of relevance. In other words the more sites it see linking to your site the more relevant it sees your site as.

The advantage to the Blog getting the comments is that a higher number of comments means your Blog has a higher authority.

Authority and relevance both count towards Page Rank in Google. As we all know the higher Page Rank the more chance of your Blog appearing on Page 1 of the search engines.

Since WordPress made Blogs set to a default setting of NoFollow spam filters have radically improved. In addition you can moderate all comments before they are published. So with a combination of Spam Filters and moderation it’s possible to almost entirely eliminate spam filters.

So many people now feel the cure is worse than the disease. As such a DoFollow Community has sprung up. These are Bloggers who, like me, have set their Blogs to DoFollow. That means if you leave a comment on my Blog that adds to the conversation it will probably be published and you will get a backlink. I benefit from the comments as I am able to develop a dialogue which adds value to the post.

The next few posts will explain how to basically set up a DoFollow Blog.

  1. This is a great concept. On our blog we seldom use nofollow links. I’ve always thought this was a funny thing to to do anyway.
