Even better ways to get a Blog comment trashed

Nice short post a rogues gallery of the type of comments I automatically Trash. For those of you using commenting for SEO it’s worth remembering.

OK so here are today’s rogues gallery of how to get a comment Trashed by me in a flash:

  • Do you do link exchanges? – There’s a big sign saying this is a DoFollow Blog that means you get a link if you leave a sensible comment that proves you read the post. If you are too lazy to even read that comment trashed. I have even placed a link to the policy where you comment. So why on earth would I want a link exchange? All it takes is for you to make a meaningful comment and you get a link.
  • Never leaving a name – my comment policy makes it clear you must leave a name. Fail to do so and your comment is Trashed no discussion
  • Are you on Twitter? – Well what is that big button at the side saying connect with me on Twitter for?
  • This is a great post – Well I would never write rubbish so you will need to try harder than that
  • Keep up the good work – Lazy attempt to get a link

So if you would like a link from my Blog to your site it’s very simple. Show you have read the post and then make a meaningful comment. I look forward to some interesting comments that have a name and adds to the post.

  1. Oh Andrew… I am so excited to run across someone who expresses my ‘comment policy’ so wonderfully well!

Thanks for making it so clear. Like you… I’m eager for meaningful, interesting, REAL comments! In fact, for me blogging is most perfect when a post serves as a springboard for conversation. (Yeah… a bit of a stretch and a girl can always hope! ;-) )

    Thanks, I appreciate you,

  2. Mary,

Pleasure to meet you. This was the only one of 4 comments I approved to this post:) When you think about it that’s amazing, it means 75% of the people who commented on a post about what to avoid went right ahead and did it. Pleased we have a similar mindset on comments. I will be visiting your Blog and I am sure will learn from it. Great example of how to comment.

  3. Hi Andrew, this is my first time here and I want to tell you that I like the layout, its nice and clean.
I have a question, do you think that having a comment policy which people have to “click on” to read might deter some comments? I admit that I almost got lost especially since I was reading a post about commenting. LOL

Also, just an FYI, that Popup Domination plugin popped up in both directions – on the way to the comment policy and on the way back here to the post…

Well since I’m a “determined” commenter, there you go!

  4. Ileane,

Firstly I will look at the Popup Dominator settings and tweak them. The whole idea of it is that it only pops up once every x days to the same visitor. This is meant to be an improvement over other pop-up ‘lantern’ type boxes that ‘pop-up’ everytiime you visit.

You point about the link to my is well made and I am monitoring the situation. What I can say is that since I have made it clearer excellent comments like yours get through. Trash does still get through however it has reduced by at least 70%.

Great feedback thanks for the comments and I will swing by your site.

  5. Andrew,

I am surprised that you were able to build your own blog up as much as you already have considering that it has a .info TLD. Usually those blogs scream spam and scream low quality. Once in a while you do come across a good one though.

I follow a comment policy similar to yours. I know that a lot of people will come by my blog just to leave a comment because it is a dofollow blog. I don’t have a problem with that. I do have a problem with them not reading the post first though. If you are going to get a link from me you had better read the post first. Otherwise I will be very tempted to hit the spam button.

Thanks for the compliment. I have never seen .info as a problem. It’s an interesting insight to find that a lot of .info are seen as spammy. My distinction between Trash and Spam is based on whether the same IP address posts on several different posts. If there are a lot of comments on the same day from the same IP address then I think of that as Spam. If people simply are incapable of reading my post prior to commenting then I Trash that.

If someone wants a link from me they have to put in some effort thats all I ask. Thanks for your comment.

  7. Hello Andrew,
I came to your site via your post on comluv.com about lazy commenting. First of all thanks for the post on comluv and here also this post is quite concise and well written and gives a lot of info about your likes and dislikes.
What more you have done is that you have kept the layout very very simple and that’s quite good.
I am sincerely looking forward to spend some more time on your blog and read the rest of it.
Note: The spelling of lazy in the sentence “lazt to even read” is wrong. Pls do correct it :)

  8. Thanks for the kind words. Apologies for the spelling error. I need to stop relying on my spell checker so much.

  9. Comments are very important specially in our sites that’s why I never leave my comments without my name so, I can be easily recognized by others.
