One of the things all successful people have in common is their ability to get people to want to work with them. Assuming you choose work from home careers in a network marketing business opportunity it is essential you develop this skill.

To be a successful network marketer is all about building relationships. If you start out by trying to ‘sell’ your network marketing business opportunity then you fledgling work from home career is doomed. You need to make people want to join you as a business associate.

This is where marketing as opposed to selling comes in. To effectively market yourself, which is what you do when you are a in a work from home careers, you have to demonstrate to your potential ‘buyers’ you have what they want.

Question, how do you know what they want? Or has Dale Carnegie says in, How To Win Friends and Influence People, you have to put the right bait on the hook to get the best people. In the network marketing business opportunity I am with a lot of time has been invested in developing a training program that does just this. It shows you the different types of bait (communication channels) and where and when to use them. Fundamentally it about putting yourself in your potential market’s shoes and finding out what they need.

You can do this by joining social networks, forums, watching Twitter chatter, reading Blogs even watching YouTube videos that criticize a competitor. Another trick is to type name of a competitor and add the word ‘scam’ into Google. This can bring lots of stories of dissatisfied customers. Now look for themes then develop a ‘story’ you can tell in 60 seconds about why you and your opportunity are what the people listening to you want. This is an excellent way of setting your work from home career on a good footing. From day one you will be looking for people’s needs and generating a ‘want’ to join your network marketing business opportunity to meet the need.

The secret sauce of a network marketing business opportunity

This is the second installment in my discussion of how the principles in, How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie can be used by network marketers.

Dale Carnegie starts his discussion on his second principle with this simple statement; “There is only one way under high heaven to get anybody to do anything. ……..And that is by making the other person want to do it. Remember there is no other way.”

There is in all of us an innate need to feel important. Studies have shown that ‘I’ is the most used word in telephone conversations for example. So what this means for you as a network marketer is that people are not interested in you. Brutal I know but it’s a fact. They are interested in themselves and what your product or service can do for them.

Knowing this information there is a ‘secret sauce’ you can use. Lack of appreciation is one of the single biggest reason’s people give for leaving their jobs. Therefore if you want someone to join you as a business associate in your network marketing business opportunity you have to show genuine interest in them.

The crucial thing is that this is unable to be faked, people can see through feigned interest straight away. This requires you to take time to listen to the other person and show genuine interest. The final element is to demonstrate you have shown interest by showing appreciation.

For example a client is in when you rang them at the agreed time and ready to speak to you, start the conversation by thanking them for being ready, ask them how they are. Crucially do not think you are wasting time getting to know the person, people love to talk about themselves. This is how you find out about them. Successful network marketers operate this way; they ‘sort’ people who are really interested in a network marketing business opportunity from people who have a passing interest.

How harmful is criticism to your network marketing business opportunity?

As a network marketer with a new network marketing business opportunity you will run into criticism. The question is how will you respond to it? A normal reaction is to be defensive, and that’s quite often the point at which you need to take a deep breath and count to five.

Dale Carnegie in his classic book, How To Win Friends and Influence People, the edition I have is from the 1950’s but it’s principles are timeless which makes it such a classic. To quote him, “Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and makes him defend himself”.

So imagine a scenario where you are talking to a prospect who is interested in joining your company and you explain it’s a network marketing business opportunity. They respond, “But they are all just pyramid scams!” Your reaction may be to defend your opportunity by explaining why it is not a scam.

Carnegie explains this will most probably cause resentment in your prospect and they will become defensive pushing their point of view. The correct course of action is to ask a question. Ask them why they think a network marketing business opportunity is a scam? Make sure to take notes, even if you are on the phone, this will give you time to process the points.

Now address the points by for example, in the case of a ‘pyramid scheme’ the person at the top always earns the most. In network marketing it perfectly possible for someone recruited into the business to earn more money than the person who recruited them. The key here is you are not disputing the person, you are giving them facts. It’s a process of education that overcomes criticism if anything will.

So remember, to paraphrase Carnegie, we have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Good listeners very often score highly as good leaders. Given you will be creating a team of business associates in your network marketing business opportunity, you are now more attractive as a leader because you took the time to listen to their criticism and avoided criticizing them.

The truth about a work from home career

It is a job

Some people think a work from home career is a soft option, this is not the case. Whilst it’s great to be able to fire your boss, you then become your own boss. This means holding yourself accountable for your success in your new work at home career. So how do you do this? Firstly, you have to find the right network marketing business opportunity. One that will provide you with support and training whilst you learn the ropes. This is crucial, because as you bring new people into your network marketing team they will be looking to you as their Sponsor to support them. Therefore you need to be with an opportunity that provides you with a standard ’support pack’ that you get people started with. Then you can track their progress against the same pack you went through. You should always make sure you are ahead of the ‘curve’ and have completed at least the foundation of any such course before you recruit too many people. Recruit as many people as you can support based on your current skill level.

It’s still a job so organize your day, keep appointments, keep tax records, keep up to date on relevant legislation that may affect running a network marketing business opportunity. You will need an Accountant and a Lawyer, maybe not on retainer but available should the IRS or Inland Revenue come calling.

You have to persist

Persistence is key. Tom Sales says this about network marketing and I agree,”The statistic that 97% of home businesses fail is false, the truth is 97% of home business owners give up”. Many people go into a network marketing business opportunity as a work from home career expecting to see overnight success. You may be lucky, you may have the magic that makes that happen. However as Bob Proctor says, there is something called the Law of Gestation, in other words ‘everything in it’s own time’. The factors affecting success in a work at home career are very varied as is your level of skill against them. However all the top experts in network marketing agree on one thing, if you follow a proven system your chances of success are much higher than if you go it alone. They also agree that if you persist, learn from your mistakes and constantly seek to improve success is inevitable.

Success will come

So how can we say success will come from a work at home career? Well the evidence is there it’s as simple as that. Provided you believe the product or service you are offering will add value to people’s lives, provided you give in terms of training your team and advice to people who ask it you will begin to attract people as a Leader. People ‘buy’ things from people they are attracted to that is the secret to network marketing success, they avoid being ’sold’ to. You know you have it right when the person bought your product or service without you having to sell it, that is the ‘tipping point’. From that point all the hard work you put into your work at home career starts to pay off in good dividends.

The different ways to earn extra money today

Why having a mastermind group is one of the ways to help you in earning extra money in network marketing

Gerry Robert has written an excellent book called The Millionaire Mindset. I use him as a ‘virtual mentor’ because he is someone who has come from complete poverty to great success. His book promotes the idea of using a Mastermind Group to help you accelerate you way to earning multiple sources of income. A Mastermind Group is a group of entrepreneurs in the same business opportunity together with the aim of helping everyone in the group succeed. They follow a 6 step process:

Write a clear objective for the group and get everyone to verbally agree to the common objective
Create a list of things or resources the group members will need if they are going to achieve the objective
Generate as many ideas as possible by brainstorming
Provide contacts of people who can help the group with the ideas generated
Prioritize the ideas
Move into action straight away – work on your top priorities

Multiple Sources of Income

Unlike other ways to earn extra money, having one that is a multiple source of income (MSI) is the smartest. An MSI is about working smarter where you get income from more than one source without extra work. Network marketing is an MSI. You can sell a product and get paid a commission on it, the person becomes part of your team and you earn monthly residual commission for every month they are in the business, finally you earn commission down to a certain level deep for people they bring into the business. So for one the act of having someone buy a product they like, being enthused to become a Business Owner themselves you get MSI.

The power of leverage a network marketing business opportunity has

By enthusing people to join your team and then training them in a way they can repeat your approach that is where the power of leverage comes in. I have written about it in an article and called it a force multiplier. By you giving of yourself to your team members and ensuring all the serious team members are equipped to do their ‘thing’ the force behind you leveraging extra money is multiplied. Focus on an initial narrow team and go deep, i.e. ensure each of them can recruit a team. Then create another small team and repeat the process. If you were to draw it as a diagram it would look the opposite from a normal business chart with the boss at the top. In this chart, you are at the bottom with lots of branches out like a tree. A very stable business model.

What are some of the advantages of being in a network business opportunity?
Flexibility

As Robert Kiyosaki explained in a recent video, a network business opportunity has advatages over a pure sole trader business. Your business legal status is sole trader however has the name implies you are in a network. So along with your Sponsor and others they recruit into the business you have the advantage of being in a team. So you do not have to work in a 9 – 5 type job to enjoy the benefits of working in a team. This is real flexibility.

Time with the family

You are home based therefore you get to spend more time with the family. Yes you will need some kind of work area however you are around if needed and you can set up you ‘work time blocks’ to fit in with family commitments or just things you want to do because it’s a nice day.

Ability to earn extra income without promotion

Bob Proctor (of the film The Secret) calls a network marketing opportunity a truly moral way to earn extra money. A work at home career is allows you to earn money even than your Sponsor without going through a process of being promoted. Many good network marketers earn as much money as a heart surgeon, however it has to be said it’s steady progress towards higher income. In a genuine network marketing business opportunity there is no ‘get rich quick’ magic bullet.

What’s happening with the price of gold?

So Gold has hit $1,000 oz and a famous commentator on precious metals says it may hit $1,300. So is the price of Gold going up? The actual answer is no. That may seem an odd answer but let me explain.

Gold and silver are precious metals and have always been the currencies of last resort for all civilizations over the last 5,000 years. The rulers of the world and gnerationally wealthy families have always held some form of private gold and silver. The question is why?

Originally all paper currencies were tied to actual precious metals. However there came a point when Governments needed more paper currencies than precious metals mined. So the Governments severed the link between the precious metals and amount of paper currency in circulation.

This means since the early 70’s the amount of paper money began to quickly outgrow the value of precious metals ever mined. Now move forward to 2004 and the Federal Reserve does the final thing needed to debase the dollar. Up until then banks had to have $1 in it’s reserve for every $12 it loaned. They were now told they could print as much money as they wanted. Only we are now in the computer age which essentially means just creating more digits in computers. Money created at the speed of light. The dollar is finally a debased currency with no intrinsic relationship to gold or silver.

The lack of confidence in banking and sub prime mortgages causes the banking collapse. This means confidence in currency based investments goes down and people move to investing (acquiring) precious metals. However demand will inevitably outstrip supply because all the Gold ever mined in the history is less than 1oz per person in the world. So because the dollar has become worthless compared to gold, which is a constant, the number of dollars needed to acquire an oz shoots up.

What do I mean when I say gold and silver are constants? Essentially it means this, and oz of Gold or Silver when converted to dollars today will buy you what it would have bought you in the 1930’s, equally it will buy you in 10 years time what it would buy you today. So Gold an Silver are inflation proof investments.

The psychological effects of Twitter and Facebook

According to an article by Stan Schroeder in Mashable Dr Tracy Alloway from the University of Stirling in Scotland says:

“Twitter and Facebook are very different beasts when it comes to improve your “working memory“, which relates to “the structures and processes used for temporarily storing and manipulating information in short-term memory.”

“Dr. Alloway has developed a working memory training programme for slow-learning children aged 11 to 14 at a school in Durham, and she found out that Facebook did wonders for working memory, improving the kids’ IQ scores, while YouTube and Twitter’s steady stream of information was not healthy for working memory. Also, playing video games, especially those that involve planning and strategy, can also be beneficial.

As with any such study, one needs to take the results with a grain of salt. Without going into the benefits of training working memory for improving your IQ results, it’s obvious that Facebook and Twitter are hard to compare. Facebook is extremely versatile: you can play games there, chat with your friends, view photos and videos; you can even take IQ tests.

Twitter is a much simpler, more streamlined service. Does that fact alone makes it detrimental to your working memory? Dr. Alloway claims: “On Twitter you receive an endless stream of information, but it’s also very succinct. You don’t have to process that information. Your attention span is being reduced and you’re not engaging your brain and improving nerve connections.” That may be true, and while looking at Twitter like a zombie for the better part of the day is probably bad for you, if you mix it up with other online activities – such as Facebook – I doubt you’ll see any negative effects”
