Most people in internet marketing know about Facebook and MySpace as potential areas to market their products and services, how many of you are members of the granddaddy of social networks – Linkedin?
Originally seen as a place for professionals to meet and look for career opportunities or swap ideas for professional development it is changing. It is not as easy to master as other social networks but is worth the effort. The average income of people on Linkedin is is over $100k, has a global audience of 23M.
Built upon trusted connections and relationships, LinkedIn has established the world’s largest and most powerful business network, with members from all five hundred of the Fortune 500 companies, as well as a wide range of household names in technology, financial services, media, consumer packaged goods, entertainment, fashion, and numerous other industries. LinkedIn is backed by world-class investors including Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, the European Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, Bain Capital Ventures and now Goldman Sachs, The McGraw-Hill Companies, and SAP Ventures.
They also allow a form of targeted pay per impressions advertising so you can aim you campaign at a very specific demographic and they have a small business package.
The thing to remember about Linkedin is it is very ‘group centric’. To get an established reputation you have to join groups in your area of interest. The first thing I would do is join groups and ‘listen’. See what kind of questions are being asked and then work out how you can offer advice or how to’s. The most powerful thing you can get from Linked in are testimonials and these are an essential part of your marketing strategy. You should have a page of your Blog solely for testimonials and ensure you use them in any printed literature. The best way to get testimonials is to give them to people you think add value or have helped you, or who you have worked with in the past.
So while Facebook may be the big daddy on the block make sure you are a member of the granddaddy as well if you are a serious network marketer. Feel free to link with me at http://www.linkedin.com/in/apeel.
For anyone who thinks they can market without getting involved in social media you need to see this video and take on board the message.
The folks in the video aren’t watching a fireworks show but rather the near-constant lightning strikes that occur over Vaenezuela’s Catatumbo River almost half of the year. Apparently, sailors have dubbed the lightning “Maracaibo Beacon” because it can be used as a navigational aid. According to the excellent Atlas Obscura, there might be as many as 280 strikes per hour during 10 hour stretches.
(The phenomenon) was first written about in the 1597 poem “The Dragontea” by Lope de Vega. De Vega tells of Sir Francis Drake’s 1595 attempt to take the city of Maracaibo by night, only to have his plans foiled when the lightning storm’s flashes gave away his position to the city’s defenders.

People can click on the badge to verify I am a member and I receive training to ensure I continue to develop as an online marketer. This demonstrates you are a leader and you will attract more people to buy products and services from you will be considered to be more trustworthy.
Although some people thinks that logos are a waste of time, you have to consider the fact that people looks for this type of thing as it will assure them that the company is legitimate.
Reaching out to more people is another strategy that can help you make more money in your online business. Advertise as much as you can. Excellent post on Mashable by Jennifer Van Grove
“We all know that employers are getting savvy to social networking sites and the information we share online. But what you may not know is that a recently conducted survey shows that nearly 1 in 2 companies are doing their online due diligence for prospective job candidates.
This according to research firm Harris Interactive, who was commissioned by CareerBuilder.com and surveyed 2,667 HR professionals, finding that 45% of them use social networking sites to research job candidates, with an additional 11% planning to implement social media screening in the very near future.
According to the study, “thirty-five percent of employers reported they have found content on social networking sites that caused them not to hire the candidate.” The big lessons you can learn are quite obvious, but bear repeating. Provocative photos and info are a bad idea (53% of employers won’t hire you), shared content with booze and drugs is also highly dangerous (44% dismissed candidates for this reason), and bad-mouthing former employers is very risky behavior (35% reported this a the main reason they didn’t hire a candidate).
We also think it interesting that emoticons, those friendly smiley faces you see everywhere, are actually big no-nos in direct communication. 14% of surveyed employers disregard candidates for that single lapse in judgment alone.
Though this may seem as a big downer for those of us who are oversharers, the reality is that there’s still opportunity to use your social presence to land that job. The survey also found that, “eighteen percent of employers reported they have found content on social networking sites that caused them to hire the candidate.”
So remember what you put on the social web stays on the social web. Use Perry Belcher’s ‘Mum Rule’ – ‘would I say this to my Mum?’. Only now switch it to ‘would I say this to my Boss?’.
Came across another (as usual) great post from copyblogger about headline writing. I have to say this is an area where I have problems starting in both my posts and my articles. Mine always seem boring. A piece of advice I got recently was write your headlines like a ‘thriller writer’. That helped but this post by Jonathan Morrow is the ‘real juice’ and I will follow it’s advice.
He lists 12 things to do when writing headlines:
With thanks to Jonathan Miller of copyblogger for a great original post that I have just aimed to pass on.
